EVAN: Katelyn, what’s wrong? What are you looking at? 5 minutes of crafting. EVAN: Are you sad because, you are a huge channel with millions of views and millions of subscribers but still they do really bad projects that they recycle, video after video after video? I’m sad because they didn’t take the toaster coasters to their full potential. EVAN: The toast coasters? (laugh) Oh my god give me (cry) a piece of bread.

What do you think? It was pretty good. (laugh) (beeps) Hey guys, we are Evan and Katelyn. And today we, toast coasters, make inspired of 5 minute craft that is kind of painful to say. But that’s not your average, we tried a 5 minute craft. and it was very- inevitably fails. Bad because it was flawed from the start. We’ll try to take it to the next level because as, doer with a garage full of tools and some experience make things I feel confident that we can do it better than their original design. I also feel extra confidence because we actually did it earlier Coasters sell in bulk to West Elm, Texas. So we have a little bit of experience with the production of concrete coasters.

But we’re also going to expand your idea and try a toast resin coaster, also. Because we have to. Because we have to. Well not, like that. There is a justification. Because I feel like you are losing the essence of the toast if you cover it, in concrete. I agree. I want to put my cups down on toast. I agree. And I want it to look like toast. I agree. (laugh) So we set up some experiments to see What kind of toast coaster is that? really the best toast coaster. (happy drum music) So toast one is control. It’s toast. It’s just a piece of toast. Toast two is just the right 5-minute craft duplicate as close as possible to what they did. And they really looked so chunky, so we’ll try another concrete version that, a bit watered down, so the toast can retain a bit more shape.

Next we’re going to cover it with resin. We’ll also do a pervasive resin. And that I have high hopes for that will be the most toast of all toasts. I think that, quick hardening of normal resin will the best be the best? Coasters. (laughs) I dont know. I dont know when it’s the most toast of all that toast. But I think we’re trying to measure what will do the best toast coaster here. Okay I got it. But let’s start with the OG 5 minute craft. 5 minute craft. (soft music) (Record scratch) So basically what she did on a 5 minute craft, is she, mixed concrete and dipped the bread two-sided in the specific and that’s it.

So we’re going to try and see how it works. Science adjacent to Evan and Katelyn yes ja But I think there is a certain viability there to this cause, in concrete there is cement. And cement, when mixed with water, reacts chemically. And basically the cement and concrete is like glue. So it should stay. So basically, it should stick and it should maybe soak in a bit. We use cement very well, with emergency You mean concrete. (laughs) I just explained the difference. (laughs) Damn! We use concrete very well, which is cement, a bit of sand and a bit of aggregate.

Is there toast? Crumbs in this water? Yes, then it’s probably okay. We’re going to make a fine of pancake batter out of it. (laughs) Might be a little dry. It’s clunky. (laughs) Looks about right. Looks about right. Are you ready toast? MAN: That wasn’t my purpose in life. I don’t know about the toast but I’m ready (drums) That feels so wrong in so many ways. Must like, maybe I need to, let it soak more. OK. (laugh) I feel like I need to help. Maybe we need to add more water. Maybe it was hers like super fluid. It just wasn’t fully saturated and I could still see bread. (laugh) This is so wrong. This poor bread. That’s not what it was made to do. MAN: I tried to tell you.

I’ll just do my best So test one and like 5 minute scraps. Five minutes of scrap we are already failing. By following their method, This is most of the coating. This will be the bottom. (laugh) I think we have to put that aside and call it good. (soft music) Now it’s time to see how far we can thin it out this before it becomes unusable. Oh, is that too soupy? Maybe we’ll just try. Yes. What if we get it right our first try? Ready? Yes. Oh. (laughs) I mean that seems better. Yeah I was like dipping it in soup. Opaque gray soup made from stones. Oh, that looks better. Or doesn’t look better. No, that looks better. It looks better. (laughs) Yeah look at that. Yes.

(tap) (whooshing) That is also terrible. No i feel like this looks better it’s just a matter of will it takes longer than that as more recommended ratio of concrete to water. Yes, yes, concrete coasters may not be functional. Concrete toaster. Concrete toaster. I think that’s about it. My olfactory senses are so confused. (laughs) I smell toast and then I smell concrete but what doesn’t smell good The toast makes me hungry. (laughs) And I don’t know how to feel (screeching) (soft music) Okay so we were reviewing the 5 minute craft Footage for a bit.

And we realized that, our first attempt Well we figured the concrete mix matched. How the bread interacted with the liquidity maybe hers was super fluid is actually more like our second attempt. KATELYN: Oh that looks better. So please do it like this it never happened. We won’t talk about it again. This is now the 5 minute craft and we made another toast, for the even more diluted version. (soft music) Okay, I’m bad at filming and I’ve already added the water. I’m so sorry. But I think that’s like, oh my god It is, that is very diluted at this point. When your concrete splashes. Yes. Yes, that is very thin. (Mumbling) That might be good, actually. Have good feelings about it.

Oh wow I mean it might crumble right away but now it looks good. I think it will collapse right away. Nice. Nice. Toast. (laughs) Is it toast at this point? (laugh) Okay, on to the epoxy. (soft music) Okay next comes the try that I think makes the best toast coasters and that goes fast curing resin. (strokes beard) Your beard caresses so loudly with the glove. (strokes beard) (soft music) EVAN: You look so scientific. I’m smiling (laughter) you just can’t see it. I can see it in your eyes (laughs) Okay I don’t know what it’s going to be interacting with the toast. (laugh) That feels wrong. EVAN: Delicious syrup. KATELYN: That kind of does it look like a simple syrup. This is different kind of french toast. I just want to add some cinnamon sugar (rings) on top.

Yes. This looks delicious. (laughs) It’s like a nice glaze. So because, this will just fall off when we turn it over We do one side at a time. But actually it looks like this. But actually it’s that kind of looks real. It looks pretty good. I still think about my technique getting better. Go into the crack. This is one of the weirdest, resin projects I’ve ever done. (laughs) Delicious. Nutritious. Tritious. Like french toast or something. Right, look damn delicious. Prohibited snacks. Do you ever have any How is life, moments? Yes. The thick epoxy is actually like being absorbed- It is absorbed above. With bread. I did not expect that.

I thought the epoxy was going to be too thick to absorb. I thought it was gonna sit upstairs It looks like you just covered it and buttered it. Yes, that’s why it looks so good. EVAN: You see, that’s how you do it. You make a toast coaster. This is toast. Okay so let’s let this start to heal and we’ll move on to the next epoxy. (soft classical music) Okay last one. Yes, my path to victory in this battle is a long one- (laughs) This is a battle between you and me now No (mumbling) Isn’t it just us versus the 5-minute craft? We’re on the same team.

But basically why Katelyn is going to fail terribly In the long run, your epoxy is only touching the surface. Mine will soak all the way through because it can soak an inch in wood. It will all soak away through this, toast. So, in the long run, Katelyn is going to fail. Mold will grow, it will grow from the inside out, weakening it while mine will maintain its full integrity for life. MAN: My integrity is long gone. Good thing we’re only testing this in a few days. Oh no, make sure you follow us on Instagram or social or something because we’re going to post an update in a period where mine wins. Are we just waiting? (laugh) until mine fails and it becomes like “I told you.” I feel like a year later I’ll say “Gotcha!” (soft music) Don’t do it yet. (laughs) But i’m excited. KATELYN: Okay, go ahead. (soft music) More bread syrup. EVAN: Oh no. KATELYN: So this is a lot better. Therefore it can soak better. EVANS: Yes, super thin. KATELYN: Super thin.

EVANS: Oh yeah, look at that. You may just like to paint with them. KATELYN: Yeah. EVAN: So nice. KATELYN: I think mine will be more beautiful because i think it will have more shine because this one does in so much. But I think this will probably look more like toast. (laugh) Yes, the toast of all coasters. Oh yeah. So will you do your back later like me? Yeah or I’ll just pour the rest of it out. (mumbles) It won’t hurt. Yeah might as well. (bright, happy music) Okay, now let’s wait and see how they hold up against it actual cups full of liquid. I’m tired though, I can take a nap. Me too. (laughs) (soft music) Hello, we are the people sleeping over there. And we have a question, are you sleeping too? Yes, I sleep every day. Sleep is the best. Then we have the perfect sponsor for you to read.

I made a joke because it’s bread. (laugh) I’m so sorry. (laugh) It was good, I understand now. (Kisses) It’s a good joke when you have to explain. (beeps) So, (clap) Soon we will do it (clap) a toast coaster test. The most intense test ever, glass beakers full of ice water.

(Popping noise) Yes. (laughs) Most intense at all. That yes, so we’ll see how they hold but at first we thought we would show you how to take care of them to harden for a few days. So we have the Harz. (soft music) This is Evans Penetration Resin and my Fast Resin EVAN: You still look delicious. (laughs) KATELYN: Still looking delicious. EVAN: I want to eat them. KATELYN: Okay, they broke up. Mine has to be a bit of a drip on the bottom. EVAN: Let’s see how I feel.

Oh, looks beautiful on both sides. KATELYN: That’s very nice. Wow, and they’re both pretty heavy. EVAN: Yeah. KATELYN: How, (Beat) I can’t crush it at all That’s a good sign. EVAN: That’s a good sign. (Knock) (murmur) Are you ready to see the specific? Yes, Katelyn was hiding her from me. I don’t want to, I’m kind of nervous. (Breathing) Oh no, so much has fallen away. So we had that in the first (mumble) This is the first. Oh no! (laugh) It looks like a, sponge cleaning sponge or something went wrong. KATELYN: I know. Just as a summary, this was the one with the recommended ones Concrete to water ratio. EVAN: Yeah, that’s going to be like the hardest toughest of them. Could be. Could be. That is the duplicate of a 5 minute craft as exactly as we could. EVAN: It’s like peeling off on all pages. KATELYN: Actually the least chipped, When you think about it.

And then that was the very dilute one. Now I don’t really want to touch this too much. Should i touch it? before the test? Just give them a little, oh! I mean it’s scaly, but it’s hard. EVAN: Yeah, it’s not just the toast, Is it just toast? Is the toast too hard? (laugh) Impressive! EVAN: This is a little better. KATELYN: Okay, this is how harder than I thought. EVAN: Yeah. KATELYN: This one. EVAN: This is gonna be easy oh no you can indent that. KATELYN: I can indent, I understand. EVAN: Yeah. Well that is- KATELYN: It definitely is only bread underneath. (laugh) EVAN: This is bread. KATELYN: I mean, you can still see the bread.

(laugh) As you can, oh no! (laugh) Look at the points of the little drawing things. EVAN: Oh no! Okay good. KATELYN: Okay, but this is just aesthetic. EVAN: Yeah. KATELYN: Oh, and then we have the simple toast that’s about as hard as this one. (laugh) They have the same hardship. (laugh) OK! It’s uglier. I know. Okay, so that’s it, so you look aesthetically but the real test is really how they act as coasters. So before we do this test I already have some observations and suggestions. Not that I suggest anyone do this but my guess is the 5 minute craft did several layers of this to get the look that they had in their finals. That’s why it was so goopy and gunky and such. Honestly, if you really want to make specific toast, I would recommend making a silicone mold and then make full solid concrete poured. That would have to be made a silicone mold of a piece Toast what I don’t think would be most effective.

Wouldn’t be the most effective. One- Then coat with resin make a silicone mold of it and then fill (clap) it with concrete. Ready? I’m ready. Let’s spin it. We have also put up some barricades because we’re kind of worried in the hour We have these glasses sitting on the bread they could fall over. (claps) And we don’t want broken glass in the store. Yes. Okay, so let’s start with the controls. Yes. (lively music) Surprisingly difficult. (laughs) What if that’s the best? No. KATELYN: Just a piece Toast. Penetrating resin and that’s where all of my money is. okay oh dear Oh no. Get the piece off the barricades. 5 minute craft, here is your time to shine. I mean nothing has broken down so far Which one is better than I thought. (laughs) It’s very slippery and slippery. Yes. Maybe we should have put extra barricade on this side. Okay, now we’ll wait an hour and we’ll be back and see how they held. Should we set a timer in the background and then do we pass in time lapse? EVAN: Yeah.

(lively music) You did it. Okay, our lesson is up. And as you can see, the bread is wet. You know what’s interesting, one of the things that did the best … Oh no, oh that’s actually disgusting. You know what That was actually okay. As a coaster, it did a great job. It took in the water. Yes. It didn’t hurt anything underneath. And it’s a toast, stale toast, could be used as a short-term coaster. Short term coaster. Let’s see, oh, they merged. Oh it’s wet How is that softer than the bread? That’s revolting. Maybe like- Complete, utter failure. KATELYN: Complete mistake. EVAN: Complete mistake. KATELYN: Okay, so again that was the recommended one Ratio concrete. Let’s try … I almost said Troom Troom. Let’s try 5 minute tinkering. You know what EVAN: You know what? KATELYN: It’s crumbling. EVAN: It’s falling apart how we touch it. KATELYN: It’s soft here, like … EVAN: Still a failure, but a little less of a mistake.

A little less of a mistake. This… EVAN: Failure too. It is one of the least failed. KATELYN: Really? I don’t know, I think it’s like pretty much on par with the other stresses. The better way to let concrete dry is actually to let it dry and somehow a humid environment. The main problem with this is: you put it on bread. So it immediately absorbs the moisture. Okay, all concrete, total failure. How much worse than- Worse than toast. Worse than toast. These worse than just plain stale toast. I didn’t see that coming. Absolute failure 5 minutes of tinkering. Now I’ll say wait, don’t remove them yet.

I will say I see a huge puddle on the resin what makes sense There is no absorbency. People (mumbling) let it lick it down. Remove the bread, let’s see. The wood is dry. The wood is dry. The wood is dry. All these pockets, little imperfections. The little bread bags. The little bread bags soaked up the water. That’s- I’ll call this fair good success. Waiting- But that’s the exciting thing, check this out. Look at how much water is in here. KATELYN: The quick hardening resin. EVAN: Yeah. But the resin penetration, look at that. KATELYN: Oh. EVAN: Because- KATELYN: It just went in. But did it go through? (mumbles) It didn’t go through. Where is the water? It’s in here. Can you shake it out (Beat) (laughs) EVAN: There’s a little bit of water. (laugh) It just absorbed the water. This is the perfect coaster. It’s the best coaster. That’s the best coaster, winner. Absolute winner. Oh my God. I called it. That’s not how I saw it happen, but I did name it. Impressive! okay (slaps) We have the formula, Use Penetrating Resin. (Beat) Toaster coasters.

It’s kind of a perfect coaster. Kind of the perfect coaster. To be honest, because of the texture of the bread and the penetration resin hardened everything. Katelyn, I have to shake your hand. We made it. We made a stupid 5 minute craft and we took an illogical question 5 minutes tinkering questionable, 5 minutes of tinkering and we made it better. Mission accomplished. Boom. Well folks, if you have any 5 minute craft videos that you think we should go and try to improve let us know in the comments below. Make sure you check out our gaming channel, Oh oh there’s a face hugger there’s a face hug! (screaming) Maybe subscribe to this channel. Could be. (meows) We look forward to see you next time.

Maybe not, I don’t know. I’ll see you bye. Bye. (beeps) Is everything ok? It still smells kind of delicious. (sniffs) That kind of worry me because that means There are like exposed bread..
